Hi Christi and welcome to Books with Tutus & Sons! Thank you for chatting with me today! I’m so excited to talk to you about your new novel, That Touch….!
Thank you so much for having me and asking me to respond. I always love interview questions. They’re so fun and honestly help me with motivation and focus.
So, let’s get started…..
Even though That Touch was a first book I’ve read from you, you have a huge backlist of books published before it. Though, it does feel they were a lot ‘’smuttier’’ than this one. How come you have decided to go in this, kind of a rom-com, direction?
Hmm, I do have a large, very varied backlist, but I would disagree that any of those are smuttier. My level of heat stays about the same across all my books, the covers and sub-genres simply change according to my mood when I’m writing the stories.
I will say that for this book, I wrote it as a fun release and escape for me from the real world, so I definitely wanted the cover and story to reflect that. I wanted readers to be entertained and leave the book with a happier, light feeling than they had before reading it.
I love to read a lot of sub-genres within romance and my writing reflects that.
Can you share a couple of fun facts about this book?
I wrote this book as a nod to the old 50 and 60’s rom com movies that provide me an escape when I’m stressed. I watch those movies to escape reality and the story was a nod to that. It also gave me a GREAT excuse to watch a lot more of those movies than I normally do.
Fun fact: Aspenridge is a fictional town where Ari sets up the holiday photoshoot. This is a town I created with another author (Sarah Nego) and we wrote 5 books and a novella there. It’s like going home to revisit the town I know so well even though it only lives in our imagination.
There is a lot of me put into this book…my favourite movies and scenes from those movies; some of my favourite locations in the US; and even some of my more eccentric things (like Ari’s mom’s use of crystals…something that’s very me); also I once was involved in the fashion world (college years, so a LONG time ago) so I got to pull out a lot of that, too.
What is your personal fav scene in the book?
100% the scene where Ari walks in right after Leo took his shower and is just in a towel. That’s a fantastic (and sexy) scene and I love it because that’s the moment when she starts to see him as other than her best friend she’s known her entire life. It’s definitely a pivotal moment.
Was there any part you’ve felt particularly hard to write?
Like most people, the last couple (honestly, three for me) of years have been tough. I’m struggling a LOT to be productive and am nowhere near where I was before life imploded. That’s hard, and this book took me over a year to write (something that I used to do in 2 months), but I think that’s simply a new reality in this stressful world we live in. It’s why I’m simply embracing writing stories I love and try to have patience with the slower process. Something I struggle with every day.
If That Touch was adapted for a movie or tv series, who do you envision as main cast?
I rarely watch television and have only seen one movie at the theatre in the last 2 years. I’m so out of touch with who the personalities are. But, I do find visuals for me characters. For this book, all the main characters were based on actual people you can look up…
Leo – Matt Bomer (American actor)
Ari – @LeandraofBleuAvenue (instagram handle)
Shane – Sahib Faber (model)
Is there anything new you’re currently working on? Any new releases we should be excited about?
I don’t have any releases planned at this moment. I’m plotting another book that is pure fun to write. It’s a young adult paranormal suspense novel with a large cast of characters. I’m loving plotting all the twists and turns and getting to know the characters and creating this world. It’s so much fun. (I have a teenage son and he’s as excited about this one as me, so I have encouragement to get writing.)
What book/books are you currently reading?
At any given time, I’m reading 2-4 books. Today, those are:
*Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn
*Kiss and Cry by Keira Andrews
*The Former Assassin’s Guide to Snagging a Reluctant Boyfriend by Alice Winters (audiobook)
